In Search of Haydn

Haydn (1723-1809) was one of the greatest musical innovators. Mozart and Beethoven greatly looked up to him as Papa Haydn and yet today in concert halls he is often overshadowed in favour of his younger contemporaries. As Andras Schiff pointed out during the recent anniversary in 2009:
'The world needs to appreciate him much more: of all the really great composers, he is still the most underrated.'
By speaking to the greatest living exponents of Haydn’s music, this film intends to readdress the balance and to shed light on this forgotten master and his work.
Following the international success of IN SEARCH Of MOZART & IN SEARCH OF BEETHOVEN Phil Grabsky is now completing his third film on great composers – JOSEPH HAYDN.
With contributions from The Orchestra of the 18th Century, Marc Andre Hamelin, Ronald Brautigam, Emanuel Ax, Les Talens Lyriques, Adam Fischer, the Endellion String Quartet, Ian Page and the Classical Opera Company, Sir Roger Norrington, Gianandrea Noseda, Richard Wigmore, Tim Blanning, Bayan Northcott, David Wynn-Jones, Alison Balsom, Gautier Capucon, and many many more.
